WELDING STRENGTH TEST FOR TEMPORARY FENCE PANELS

Temporary fences are frequently moved, installed, dismantled and reused on construction sites and in temporary work areas. During handling and transport, fence panels may be subjected to impact, vibration and pressure. The strength of the welds between the wire mesh and the frame contributes to the overall durability of each panel.

To check the integrity of these welds, Giant Fence conducts a welding strength test on finished temporary fence panels. The test panel is subjected to impact and downward pressure, after which the welds are inspected for signs of separation or damage.

TEST PURPOSE

This test evaluates the strength of the welded connections between the wire mesh and the temporary fence frame under loads representative of actual use. The test helps to:

  • Check whether the wire mesh remains securely attached to the frame.
  • Assess the stability of individual welded joints.
  • Identify any signs of weld separation or damage.
  • Verify the overall structural integrity of the finished fence panel.
TEST PROCEDURE

The welding strength test is conducted as follows:

  1. Panel preparation: Select a finished temporary fence panel for testing.
  2. Impact test: Lift and drop the panel to subject the panel structure, including its welded joints, to impact.
  3. Pressure test: Lay the panel flat on the floor and step on it to apply downward pressure to the wire mesh and frame.
  4. Weld inspection: After both loading steps, visually inspect the joints where the wire mesh is welded to the frame.
  5. Damage check: Look for weld separation, broken welds, detached wires, cracks, or other visible damage.
WHAT THE TEST EVALUATES

The test assesses how the welded connections and the finished fence panel respond to impact and downward pressure.

  • Weld strength: Assesses how well the welds between the wire mesh and frame withstand the applied loads.
  • Connection integrity: Checks whether the wire mesh remains securely attached to the frame after testing.
  • Structural stability: Assesses whether the fence panel as a whole remains stable under the applied loads.
  • Resistance to handling stress: Helps assess the panel’s ability to withstand forces encountered during transport, installation, and repeated use.
PRACTICAL TESTING FOR RELIABLE TEMPORARY FENCING

The strength of the welds between the wire mesh and frame directly affects the durability and serviceability of temporary fence panels. Giant Fence uses drop and pressure tests to check whether these connections remain intact after loading. These checks help assess the panel’s ability to maintain its structural integrity during handling, installation, and repeated use.
