FENCE PANEL-TO-POST CLEARANCE TEST

Fence panels are typically secured to posts with spider clamps and bolts. After assembly, a small amount of clearance may remain between the fence panel and the post, allowing limited movement at the connection point.

To check whether this clearance is within the range required for proper fence assembly, Giant Fence conducts a panel-to-post clearance test using a step feeler gauge. We insert the gauge into the gap between the panel and the post to measure the clearance and check for consistency across the points tested.

TEST PURPOSE

This test measures the clearance between the fence panel and the post after the panel is secured to the post with spider clamps. The test helps to:

  • Determine the actual clearance between the panel and the post.
  • Verify that the measured clearance falls within the specified range.
  • Assess the consistency of spider clamp installation.
  • Identify connections with excessive or insufficient clearance.
  • Support proper fence assembly and stable connections.
TEST PROCEDURE

The panel-to-post clearance test is conducted as follows:

  1. Connection inspection: Confirm that the fence panel is securely fastened to the post with spider clamps and bolts.
  2. Gauge selection: Select a step feeler gauge suitable for measuring the clearance at the connection.
  3. Gap measurement: Insert the gauge into the gap between the panel and the post at the connection point.
  4. Clearance determination: Determine the clearance range based on the thickest gauge step that fits into the gap.
  5. Check at multiple points: Where necessary, repeat the measurement at selected connection points to check installation consistency.
  6. Result assessment: Compare the measured clearance with the range specified for fence assembly.
WHAT THE TEST EVALUATES

The test evaluates the following aspects of the panel-to-post connection after assembly:

  • Connection clearance: Measures the gap between the fence panel and the post.
  • Assembly consistency: Compares clearances at similar connection points to assess consistency.
  • Clamp installation: Uses the measured clearance to help assess whether the spider clamps are installed correctly.
  • Movement allowance: Checks whether the clearance allows the intended amount of movement after fastening.
  • Installation quality: Identifies connections that are too tight or have excessive clearance.
CONSISTENT CONNECTIONS FOR RELIABLE FENCE INSTALLATION

Proper clearance between the panel and the post is an important part of fence assembly. Giant Fence uses a step feeler gauge to measure the gap at spider clamp connections, verify that it falls within the specified range, and check for consistency across the points measured. This inspection supports reliable installation and consistent performance of the assembled fence system.
